About Steve Feeney

When Steve is not organising activities for cubs as part of the Celts' leadership team he spends his working time as a freelance cameraman and video producer. Steve has been involved in the 1st Winchester Scout Group since 1995 when his son was a cub. He has also held the position of Assistant District Commissioner for Cubs in the Winchester District but has decided that he prefers the "front line" role of Cub Scout Leader more.

The Long Haul

The Long Haul is our big event for this summer is one of our Scout leaders, Rob Thomson, is going to pull a Scout Trek Cart from Brownsea Island to Winchester from Saturday 12th to Sunday 13thJuly.

We aim to raise over £10,000.00 towards the Bigger & Better campaign and at a recent Scouting event Chief Scout, Bear Grylls, has wished us luck adding that he was impressed with the challenge we’ve set ourselves.

Pre-School Provider Selected

After a series of interviews, the YMCA has been chosen as the provider of the pre-school in the new hut.  This is an exciting choice, the YMCA already have ten pre-schools (four of which are outstanding) in Hampshire, as well as Fairthorne Manor.

Demolition complete!

A huge thanks to everyone who turned up yesterday to help knock down the inside of the hut.  Mission accomplished and we are now ready for the builders to start in the next few weeks.

THE 30 CHALLENGE BADGE – DONOR TO BOOST FUNDRAISING

Hopefully you’ve all received details of the 30 Challenge badge and your children are busy planning their fundraising.  Well, good news!  An anonymous donor has promised to give 50p for every £1 raised by each young person as part of the challenge badge – the more the young people raise the more the donor gives!

Leaders, please continue to promote this scheme.

10th May – Demolition Day

We are in need of a team of parents to help us demolish the hut ready for the builders to begin their work.  Saturday 10th May is Demolition Day, a BBQ will be provided at lunchtime.

Children are welcome to come along although they will remain your responsibility throughout the day.  Sledgehammers will be provided!

We cannot do this without some help – please sign up for a couple of hours at least.  Email chrislesleybestwick@tiscali.co.uk to confirm you’re coming (we need to know how many sausages to buy!) or sign up on the sheet in the Hut from Monday.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Family Portrait Sessions

Richard Peters, who is a photographer and the dad of two of our members, has generously offered  to raise money for the Bigger and Better Campaign by running a Family Portrait Session.

The Harestock Lodge Hotel has offered to host the event.  You might like to consider a family portrait followed by a family lunch at the hotel.

How about a really nice photo in Scout Uniform, makes a change from the school picture.

All welcome – neighbours, grandparents, friends, those in need of a decent business profile photo  etc.

Visit Richard’s web site www.rjpphotographics.com to see examples of his work.

To book your free 15 minute sitting call Richard on 07769 214609.
